Temp Mail Not Working? Why Instagram, X, ChatGPT Reject It

Temp mail not working on Instagram, X, Reddit or ChatGPT comes down to one of three things: the site refuses the domain at the email field, it accepts the address but never sends the code, or the code arrives and the account is limited later. In each case the site is reacting to the domain after the @, not to the inbox itself.

This guide is for people who already tried a temp mail address on a big platform and got stuck. It shows how to tell which failure you hit, what each platform tends to do, and what to use instead, including the platforms where we would not suggest a rented inbox either.

Why temp mail is not working: three failure modes

What you see What is happening What to do
An error at the email field: "invalid email", "email not supported", "domain not allowed" The domain is on the site's blocklist Switch to a mainstream address; resending changes nothing
"We sent you a code", but the temp inbox stays empty The site accepted the form and decided not to send Run the test below, then use a different address
The code arrived and the account worked, then a new check appeared days later The account was reviewed later and asked for a phone number or a fresh code Add a contact you control while you still can

The third case is the one people miss. A code that arrives proves the inbox worked once; it does not mean the platform accepted the address for good.

A two-minute test for a blocked domain

You can separate a screened domain from a broken inbox before you waste more attempts:

  1. From your own mailbox, send a short test message to the temp address. If it shows up, the inbox works and the platform is the one refusing.
  2. Request the code once on the platform with the temp address and wait a few minutes. Tapping resend again and again can trigger a temporary limit on many sites.
  3. Request the code once with a mainstream address you control. If that one arrives and the temp one never does, the domain is being screened.

If the test message in step 1 never arrives, the temp-mail site itself has dropped that domain or is down, and no platform will reach it.

Instagram, X, Reddit, ChatGPT and Discord

Platforms do not publish their blocklists, so the notes below describe what is commonly seen, not official rules. Each platform's help centre has its current steps for codes that do not arrive.

Instagram. Symptoms range from an error on the email step to a "check your email" screen that never fills. Instagram can also stop a sign-up it considers risky before it sends anything, even to a mainstream address. On rented real inboxes, 89% of Instagram orders on OTPGmail received a code over the last 30 days, as shown on the Instagram inbox page.

X (Twitter). Throwaway domains are often refused at sign-up, and X can ask for extra verification such as a phone number. We have no delivery record for X that we could stand behind, so we do not suggest a rented inbox for it: use a mainstream address you own and follow X's own help pages. Its availability on OTPGmail is shown on the rent page.

Reddit. Depending on how you sign up, Reddit sends either a code or a "verify your email" link, and well-known temp-mail domains are commonly filtered. Over the last 30 days, 99% of Reddit rentals received their code or link; see the Reddit inbox page for price and stock.

ChatGPT. OpenAI emails a 6-digit code, and a throwaway domain is the most common reason it never arrives. The email can take a while: on rented inboxes the average wait is about 1 minute, and OpenAI sometimes asks for a phone number as well. Over the last 30 days, 91% of ChatGPT rentals received a code; the orders that did not usually stopped at OpenAI's own checks before any email was sent. Details are on the ChatGPT inbox page.

Discord. Discord verifies an address with an emailed link, and its help centre explains how to resend it. As with X, we have no delivery record for Discord that supports a recommendation, so use an address you own; availability is shown on the rent page.

Why a mainstream inbox behaves differently

Big platforms score a sign-up on several signals, and the email domain is one of them. A temp-mail domain is shared by thousands of strangers and appears on public lists, so it starts with a low score. A @gmail.com or @icloud.com address is what most real users have, so the domain itself raises no flag; whether a code is sent then depends on the rest of the sign-up.

That is also why lists of "temp mail that works with ChatGPT" or "with Facebook" go stale so fast. A new domain may pass for a few days, until it is listed too.

A rented inbox gives you that mainstream domain without creating a mailbox: a real @gmail.com or @icloud.com address for one verification, with the code on your order page and no sign-in. If no code arrives within 25 minutes, the order cancels itself and 100% goes back to your balance under the refund rules. It costs a few cents per inbox, which is the honest difference from temp mail; no-cost OTP sites versus a paid inbox weighs that trade, and virtual email for OTP explains how the rental works.

Stay within each platform's rules

A different address does not change a platform's rules. Each one sets its own limits on how many accounts a person may hold and what they may be used for, so follow those terms. If an account was suspended, a new address is not a way back in; use the platform's appeal process instead.

If you intend to keep the account, add a phone number or a permanent email you control as soon as you are in. A rented inbox receives codes only during its order window, and a temp-mail inbox may vanish within hours.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my code arrive late, or not at all, on temp mail?

Some senders are slow by design, and every resend can replace the code you were waiting for. Wait a few minutes, use only the newest code, and if nothing arrives, assume the domain is screened rather than resending.

Does an iCloud address work better than Gmail?

For most sites they behave alike, because both are mainstream domains. On a few services the two inbox types do differ, Facebook being the one to watch, so check the service page's 30-day rate and price before you choose.

Is there temp mail that works with Facebook?

Facebook often asks for extra checks before it sends anything, even to real addresses. Over the last 30 days, 79% of Facebook rentals on OTPGmail received a code; a throwaway domain lowers the odds further.

Will temp mail work for an account I want to keep?

Not for long. Login and security codes keep going to that address, and a temp inbox can disappear within hours. Use your own address for accounts you plan to keep, or move the account to it right after sign-up.
