iCloud Email Not Receiving Verification Codes? 8 Checks

If a website's verification code is not reaching your iCloud email, check the Junk folder first, then whether your iCloud storage is full, then whether a Hide My Email address was switched off or forwards somewhere else. Codes for your Apple Account itself are a different matter: Apple shows them on your trusted devices or sends them to a trusted phone number, not to your email.

This page is for anyone waiting on a code from another service, such as a shop, an app or a work tool, at an @icloud.com or Hide My Email address. Apple's behaviour described here comes from its support pages, read in October 2026.

First: is it Apple's code or another site's?

When you sign in to your Apple Account on a new device or browser, Apple's help pages say the six-digit code appears on one of your trusted devices, or can be sent by text message or phone call to a trusted phone number. It is not emailed, so no mailbox fix will make it appear. If you cannot reach a trusted device or number, Apple's advice is to wait until you can, or to start account recovery from the sign-in screen.

Everything below is about the other case: a third-party website emails a code or link to your iCloud address, and it never shows up.

Why the iCloud email OTP is not received

What you notice Likely cause What to do
Nothing in the inbox from that site The message went to Junk Open Junk, mark it Not Junk or move it to the inbox
No new mail from anyone iCloud storage is full Clear space or add storage; until then, new mail cannot arrive
The address is a Hide My Email address It was deactivated, or forwarding points to another inbox Reactivate it, and check the inbox it forwards to
The address ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com A Sign in with Apple relay address, used on a different site Use Sign in with Apple on the site that issued it, or a regular address
Mail shows on iCloud.com but not on your iPhone The device is not fetching new mail Turn on Push and set Fetch New Data to Automatically
Several codes arrived and none works Resends replaced the older codes Use only the newest email
The site says “sent”, yet nothing arrives anywhere A typo in the address, or the site stopped before sending Check the address, resend once, contact the site

Apple notes that messages in Junk are deleted automatically after 30 days, and that once a message is moved out of Junk, later mail from that sender is no longer marked as junk.

Eight checks, quickest first

  1. Open Mail on iCloud.com in a browser. If the code is there, the problem is your device, not delivery.
  2. Look in Junk and search for the website's name. Move the message to the inbox so the next one lands there.
  3. Check your iCloud storage. Mail stored in iCloud shares space with photos and backups, and a full account stops receiving.
  4. For a Hide My Email address, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Hide My Email. Confirm the address is still active and check where it forwards.
  5. Re-read the address you typed on the website: icloud.com, not icloud.co or iclould.com.
  6. Request the code once more, wait a few minutes, and use only the newest email.
  7. Add the sender to your contacts. Apple says mail from people in your contacts does not go to Junk.
  8. Still nothing? The website may have stopped the sign-up before sending. Contact its support with the exact time you tried.

For a broader look at causes that sit on the website's side, the checklist for missing codes applies to any address.

If the address is a Hide My Email or relay address

Hide My Email addresses end in @icloud.com and forward to the inbox you chose, so most delivery problems are really forwarding problems: a switched-off address returns mail to the sender, and a changed destination means the code is waiting in a different mailbox, possibly in its junk folder.

Sign in with Apple addresses behave differently. Apple's developer documentation says mail to a relay address is delivered only from sending domains the app's developer registered with Apple; anything else bounces. So a relay address copied from one app into another website will not receive that website's code. Hide My Email vs a rented iCloud inbox explains when each kind of address makes sense.

When a rented iCloud inbox helps

If you need a new sign-up and would rather not use your own iCloud, or your mailbox keeps missing one site's mail, a rented @icloud.com inbox is an option:

A rental cannot help with codes for an account you already have, because those go only to the address on the account. For prices and how iCloud stock behaves, see the iCloud inbox overview; to start, open the rent page.

Frequently asked questions

Why does iCloud Mail get codes from some sites but not others?

Each site sends from its own servers and is filtered on its own, so one sender may land in Junk while others reach the inbox. Moving one message out of Junk, or adding the sender to contacts, usually fixes that site for next time.

How do I verify an iCloud email address?

For a website, verifying means entering the code, or clicking the link, that it emails to that address. For your Apple Account, follow the steps Apple shows when you add or change an email in your Apple Account settings.

Can I sign up with iCloud Mail without a verification code?

Only if the website does not ask for one. If it does, the code has to reach the address, so fix delivery with the steps above or use another address you control.

Can a rented iCloud inbox receive my Apple Account sign-in codes?

No. Apple sends sign-in codes to your trusted devices and phone numbers, never to a rented inbox. A rental only receives the verification email of the service you rented it for.
