Cursor Sign-Up and Login Codes by Email: What to Expect
Cursor, the AI code editor, verifies accounts by email. You get a code or a link when you sign up, and sometimes another one when you sign in on a different machine. This guide covers what those emails look like, what to do when one does not arrive, and how to give each member of a team an account of their own.
What Cursor sends, and when
| Moment | What arrives by email | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-up with email | A 6-digit code, subject along the lines of "Your verification code", or a sign-in link on some versions | Type the code on the verification page, or open the link |
| Sign-in on another machine | Possibly a further code to the same address | Enter it on that machine |
| Password reset | An email to the account address | Follow it to set a new password |
Codes expire quickly, and the verification page has a resend button. Cursor does not normally ask for a phone number at sign-up, so the whole flow runs through the account's email. That makes the address more important than it looks: it is how you get back in on a new laptop and how you recover a forgotten password.
Email sign-up or Continue with Google or GitHub
Cursor offers three ways in. "Continue with Google" and "Continue with GitHub" use a Google or GitHub account you already sign in to. Email sign-up asks for an address and a password, then sends the code.
Pick email sign-up when the Cursor account should be separate from your personal Google or GitHub identity: a work laptop kept apart from a home one, an account for a client project, or a clean account for recording a tutorial. After confirming, open the Cursor app and sign in with the same email and the password you set.
When the Cursor code does not arrive
Work through these in order:
- Check the route. Make sure you chose email sign-up; the Google and GitHub buttons do not use the address you typed.
- Check the address. Paste it rather than typing it; one wrong character sends the email nowhere.
- Resend once, then wait. Only the newest code is valid, so repeated resends just replace each other.
- Watch for an "email unavailable" type of message. Some users report Cursor rejecting an address at sign-up. Which addresses it accepts is Cursor's decision; try another address or another inbox type.
- Signing in on a second machine? The new code goes to the account email. If that address no longer receives mail, you cannot complete the sign-in, which is why the next section matters.
Accounts for a team
Give every person their own Cursor account and their own address. Shared logins make it hard to tell later who did what, and a code sent to a shared address can end up with the wrong person.
A simple routine works for small teams and agencies:
- Create one address per member and keep a short record of which member owns which account.
- Have each member confirm their account and sign in on every machine they will use on the same day.
- Move each account to an address the member or the company controls, through Cursor's settings.
- Leave billing to Cursor: a card is needed only when you upgrade to a paid plan, and plans are handled by Cursor, not by OTPGmail.
Settings follow the signed-in account rather than the device, so a member who signs in with the same email and password on a new laptop should find them there. Do not create several accounts under one identity to repeat a trial period; that goes against Cursor's terms, and OTPGmail is not responsible for how accounts are used.
Keeping your main address out of Cursor
When you would rather not give a new tool your main address, a rented inbox can receive the sign-up code. Choose Cursor on OTPGmail and rent a real @gmail.com or @icloud.com address; the code or link shows on your order page and you never sign in to the mailbox. Price, stock and the rules of the offer are shown on the rent form before you pay. You can cancel before the first code for a full refund, and an order that gets nothing within 25 minutes is cancelled and refunded automatically. Extra codes cost nothing within the order period when the service sends more than one; the limit and time window are shown before you rent.
For a team, the same order can be created through the API with service code crsr, one order per member. The Cursor rental page has the step-by-step, and Gmail or iCloud: which to choose helps with the inbox type.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the email on my Cursor account later?
Yes, in Cursor's settings. Do it soon after sign-up if the account was created with an address you will not keep, because password resets and new-machine codes go to whatever address is on file.
Do I need a card to create a Cursor account?
No. A card is needed only when you upgrade to a paid plan; creating the account needs just the email step.
Why did Cursor send me a code when I already have an account?
You signed in on a machine Cursor had not seen before. Enter the new code on that machine; the account itself has not changed.
Setting up Cursor now? Rent an inbox, check live stock and prices, or read the API docs to create one order per team member.
