Signing Up for Reddit with Email: Code, Verify Button and Missing Emails
You can sign up for Reddit with just an email address. Reddit confirms it in one of two ways, depending on the sign-up path and app version: a 6-digit code sent the moment you enter the address, or a "Verify your email address" message with a button, sent after the account has been created. You can also skip the step and verify later from your account settings. An unverified account can still log in, but some features are limited and a forgotten password cannot be recovered by email.
Below: telling the two emails apart, what to check when neither arrives, what verification changes, and a brand or moderation-team account that nobody gets locked out of later.
Will Reddit send a code or a "Verify your email address" button?
- The 6-digit code arrives straight after you type the address, with a subject along the lines of "Your Reddit verification code". You type it into the sign-up screen to carry on.
- The button email comes when Reddit creates the account first and asks you to confirm afterwards. Opening the link finishes the check; there is nothing to type.
Both can be resent, and each resend usually replaces the previous code or link. When two messages are waiting, the later one is the valid one. Verification links expire too, so open the button when it arrives.
Reddit did not send a verification email: check by symptom
Nothing has arrived at all.
- Re-read the address. A trailing space or one wrong character sends the email nowhere, so paste it rather than typing it.
- Check the route you took. "Continue with Google" or Apple sends nothing to the address you typed, and the phone-number route sends an SMS instead. Choose the email option.
- Wait a minute or two with the page open, then press resend once.
- Still empty? Try a clean session: a private window with no VPN and no ad blocker rules out most problems on Reddit's side.
The code is rejected as invalid or expired. You probably pressed resend more than once, and the code you typed was replaced. Wait for the newest message and enter that code promptly.
You skipped verification during sign-up. That is allowed. Ask for the email again from your account settings when you are ready; it is sent at that moment, so have the inbox open then.
In your own mailbox, also check the junk folder and any filters. Causes common to every service are in the verification code checklist.
What verifying your email unlocks, and what it doesn't
Verification does two practical things. It ties a working address to the account, so a lost password can be reset, and it lifts the restrictions some communities place on unverified accounts.
What it does not do is give a new account any standing. Account age, karma and a track record still decide where it can post:
- Community thresholds. Many subreddits set a minimum account age, a minimum karma score or both, and hold or remove posts from accounts below the line.
- Reddit's own pace limit. A brand-new account that posts or comments in quick succession can hit a limit with the message "you are doing that too much".
- Self-promotion filters. Links to your own site or product in the first posts are the most common reason a post quietly disappears; most communities restrict self-promotion.
None of these is an email problem. Read each community's rules, take part as any new member would and give the account time. If a post vanishes, message the moderators politely instead of posting it again.
A brand or moderation-team account, within Reddit's rules
A company, project or community account is still a single Reddit account. What changes is who needs to reach it later.
- Register it to a shared company address, not an employee's personal inbox, so a colleague or the client can recover it if the person who set it up moves on. If you started with another address, move the account to the shared one as soon as it exists.
- Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, and keep the password in the team's password manager.
- Moderators act from their own accounts. Each person on a moderation team uses their personal account instead of sharing one login, so it stays clear who removed or approved what.
- Behave like a member first. Brand accounts do better when they join discussions before they post announcements.
Reddit forbids using accounts to evade a ban, vote on your own posts or manipulate discussions. Read the current User Agreement and each community's rules; OTPGmail is not responsible for accounts used against them.
Getting through the email step with a rented inbox
Need an address only to finish sign-up before moving to a company mailbox? Rent a real @gmail.com or @icloud.com inbox. The order row shows "Waiting for code", then the code (click to copy) or the verify link as a button, plus "View email"; there is no mailbox login. In the last 30 days, 99% of Reddit orders received a code or link, after about 36 seconds on average. Nothing within 25 minutes and the row reads "Cancelled · refunded", with the full price back on your balance. The wait starts when the address is issued, so open Reddit's email field first. Steps, price and stock are on the Reddit rental page; scripts use POST /v1/orders with { "service": "bnl" }.
Frequently asked questions
Does Reddit require a phone number to sign up?
No. An email address is enough to create the account. Reddit also offers a phone-number route, which sends its code by SMS instead of by email; OTPGmail handles email only and does not receive SMS.
Can I change the email address on my Reddit account later?
Yes, under Settings → Account. If the account started on a rented inbox, change it soon after sign-up: a rented inbox only receives codes within its order window, which the rent page shows before you pay, so a later password reset would not reach you.
Does registering a Reddit API app need a verified email?
Plan on it. A verified address is the safe baseline for whoever owns the app, and Reddit's developer rules have changed several times, so read the current Data API Terms and developer documentation before you build.
A colleague is filling in the sign-up form. Can they see the code without my login?
Yes. Switch on a share code on your Account page: they enter it together with the email at otpgmail.net/otp to see the codes without an account. Viewing codes there never charges you; renting a cancelled address again through the link works only if you allow it on the Account page, and then it is charged to your balance.
